Digital product passport for toys: safety redefined.

Spielzeug mit Digitaler Produktpass

When I received the news that the European Parliament had voted 97% in favor of new toy safety guidelines, I was thrilled - and not just as an expert on the Digital Product Passport (DPP). Because toys are more than just entertainment. They accompany generations, shape children's development and, above all, should be safe. But the reality is different: Toys are among the products most frequently reported as dangerous in the EU. So it's high time for a rethink.

Digital product passport for toys: transparency and safety as the new standard

The new regulation introduces the Digital Product Passport for Toys (DPP) - and that's a real game changer! A simple scan of a QR code or an NFC tap is all it takes to call up comprehensive information on the safety, origin and ingredients of a toy:

  • Parents receive transparent safety information at the touch of a button.

  • Manufacturers must strictly label or ban hazardous chemicals.

  • Authorities can carry out customs and market surveillance more efficiently.

This step not only makes buying safer, but also sets new standards for transparency and consumer protection in the toy industry.

Digital Product Passport: A big step for safe toys in Europe

With this decision, the EU shows that innovation and child safety can go hand in hand. The future belongs to products that are not only creative and exciting, but also sustainable and safe.

For me, a digital product passport for toys is much more than a technical innovation. It is a vote of confidence in parents and children - and an important step towards a safer toy market.
